26 students from over 10 Geelong schools had the pleasure of visiting BioLAB and working with elite AFL footballers Harry Taylor and George Horlin-Smith, as well as Geelong Cats Sport Scientist, Dr Jacqui Tran.

The students had the opportunity to apply their VCE PE knowledge throughout 3 practical workshops on:

  • Chronic Adaptations to training
  • Nutrition for performance
  • Hydration strategies

The 2 hour event enabled students to apply their knowledge, skills and understanding by utilising real world applications and first hand experiences of Harry, George and Jacqui in the areas of science and maths of human performance.

Keep an eye out for the 2018 Athlete Performance study session – it will be a winner!

Here is some great feedback from students who attended:

“I found it particularly interesting when George and Harry discussed the differences in approach they take pre, post and during exercise to ensure proper hydration”.

“Always a fun and inclusive environment when we visit the BioLab centre. Having experts, such as the Geelong football players and Jackie gave you more of an insight into what was being talked about as they have first hand experience”.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the session. I liked to topics covered and having the players there was great, as the knowledge and theory that we were learning could be applied to a real life situation”.

“I really enjoyed this session, I learnt a lot and I liked having Harry, George and Jackie there to provide their experiences as elite athletes and sport scientists”.
