BioCATS Indigenous Round
The BioCATS partnership program celebrated the AFL Indigenous Round by providing a unique BioCATS opportunity for Koorie students across the Wimmera South West region. Over 30 students from 9 different Western District schools attended BioCATS on Tuesday 5th June. This is the 5th year we have worked closely with DET Koorie Engagement Support Officer Steve Young and his team. It is such a wonderful day for all students and staff involved.
“It has been a wonderful opportunity for our Koorie students to be involved in such a terrific program.We keep coming back every year and we continue to be impressed by the staff, the program (including all the hands on experiments) and the facilities at GMHBA stadium. Can’t wait to make it six years in a row next year”
Steve Young, DET Koorie Engagement Officer.
The students had an amazing day completing multiple science, maths and health experiments on football, including;
• GPS Maximum Speed and Distance.
• Handball data collection.
• Nutrition and Hydration analysis.
• Investigating technology in football.
• Statistical Analysis.
The students also had a tour of the GFC, which included going on to the ground at GMHBA stadium and sitting in the players interchange bench. Every student walked away with a BioCATS drink bottle, healthy eating recipe book and a unique key ring that replicated the Cats Indigenous round football jersey.
