Teacher Professional Development Series: Fatigue Mechanisms

As part of our focus on Professional Development in 2018 we have recently run a "Fatigue and Lactate Inflection Point Professional Learning Workshop" at the outdoor sport science laboratory at Deakin University Waurn Ponds Campus. This workshop, aimed at VCE Physical Education teachers saw VCE teachers from schools around the Geelong region watch local multisport athlete, Luke Haines participate in a live field test. Deakin Sport Scientist Kris Hinck, sampled blood lactate levels after each stage of the test, allowing data to be displayed in ‘real time’.

Lead Education Officer Renee Lane and our resident Exercise Science Officer Cam Stewart equipped the teachers with confidence in the background science concepts behind this "hard to teach" learning area  and provided relevant teaching resources to enhance understanding and application in the classroom.
