The Winning Edge continues to be one of BioLAB’s most popular programs, with students immersed in an authentic University experience, at Deakin’s School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences faculty at the Waurn Ponds campus. Students experience laboratory activities in Anatomy, Biomechanics, Physiology and Fitness Components and are exposed to research grade technologies, in an amazing ‘all access’ day.

2018 has seen the introduction of a new lab experience on Fitness Components, to align with the revised VCE study design. Students gain access to the 8-million dollar athletics track and teaching hub, utilising cutting-edge technologies to collect primary data and applied learning in fitness components, energy systems and assessments of fitness.

  • Over 700 students from 22 schools across Victoria will experience the program in 2018.

Student Feedback from Term 1:

“The Winning Edge experience has opened my mind to what university may be like. The staff were nice and always happy to help. This experience has also made me think deeper about my career pathways, and what I enjoy the most. It also gave me more knowledge about the areas we covered (Anatomy, Biomechanics and Physiology). This experience is really helpful because I got to see more of an insight into what happens with the human body. The information and especially the video analysis was very interesting”

“I thought the presenters were very engaging and made all activities and information presented very interesting. I found it enjoyable to participate in the activities, however I also enjoyed the theory work as it was interesting, relevant and presented with enthusiasm. It was incredible to get the opportunity to work with all the technology.”

“I thought it was really good, it was really well run and it was in context to what we are learning about in class which was very helpful and helped us develop a visual image of how an assessment of physical activity would be carried out.”
