Coded for Success

Year 10Onsite & Outreach

Are we coded for success? This program investigates the link between genetics and sporting success.

Students will use cutting edge technologies to screen athletes and maximise individual sporting success by matching genetic profiles to sports performance.  Students gain a better understanding of how an individual’s genotype can determine their sporting phenotype and how this can be screened.
Students will be hands on with gel electrophoresis equipment as they gain a better understanding on how the genetic screening process works in determining the unknown genotypes of mystery athletes. During this process students discover the role played by Molecular Biologists and Genetic Counsellors in the genetic screening process.
